How We Should Approach Worship

Worship is more than a scheduled activity; it is a sacred privilege. When we gather as the church, we come before the throne of Almighty God—not as spectators, but as participants offering our hearts, minds, and voices in reverence and praise. Our approach to worship reflects the depth of our faith and our understanding of who God is.
1. With Reverence and Awe
Hebrews 12:28 tells us to “serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:” Worship is not a casual event—it is a meeting with the Creator of the universe. We should come prepared, focused, and humble, recognizing the holiness of the One we praise.
2. In Spirit and in Truth
Jesus said in John 4:24, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. .” Worship is not about outward rituals or emotional displays—it is about aligning our hearts with God’s will and grounding our worship in the truth of His Word.
3. With Unity and Love
When the early church worshiped, they did so “with one accord” (Acts 2:46). Worship is not just personal; it is communal. We are brothers and sisters in Christ, joining together in one voice. Resentment, division, or distraction robs worship of its power. We must strive for unity and peace as we come before the Lord.
4. With Preparation and Purpose
Just as we prepare for important events in life, we should also prepare for worship. This means setting our hearts on God throughout the week, studying His Word, and coming ready to give—our time, our minds, our voices, and our devotion.
5. With Gratitude and Joy
Psalm 100:2 encourages us to “serve the Lord with gladness” and “come before His presence with singing.” Worship should be filled with thankfulness for God’s grace and joy for the blessings we have in Christ.
Let’s not treat worship as routine or optional. It is a gift, a responsibility, and a reflection of our relationship with God. May we always approach worship with sincere hearts, ready to honor the One who is worthy of all praise.
